Rules for using Thai Oil in Competitions
ASSOCIATION OF BOXING COMMISSIONS: As in boxing and mixed martial arts, the application of limited Vaseline to the face at ringside is permissible. Unlike boxing and mixed martial arts, the use of Thai liniment is permissible and typically expected, to be applied to the fighter’s body. Thai Oil, however, is a specific item and should not be confused with other oils, greases, ointments, balms or butters such as Tiger Balm, IcyHot or Cocoa Butter
CORNER MATERIALS & USE
Vasoline is the only substance that can be used on a fighters face.
Vasoline or Abilene can be used on the body.
HOWEVER - NONE may be used in excess and the IKF Referee may require you to wipe it ALL off if you begin the bout with excessive amounts on.
BABY OIL is NOT permitted at all.
The use of BenGay, IcyHot, and other such sports cremes is NOT permitted at all.
UNLESS NOT APPROVED BY THE STATE ATHLETIC COMMISSION WHERE EVENT/BOUT IS TAKING PLACE.
The use of Monsel's Solution for the stopping of hemorrhage in the ring is prohibited.
No "Smelling Salts" or related medicines are allowed in the corner. The use of shall result in immediate disqualification and a $500.00 fine.
If a pro fighter the fine shall be $500 or 10% of the fighters purse, whichever is greater.
NEVADA ATHLETIC COMMISSION: Unlike in boxing and mixed martial arts, the use of Thai liniment is permissible to apply to a kickboxer before a kickboxing bout, but may be applied only to the kickboxer’s lower body. Thai liniment is a specific item and should not be confused with other oils, greases, ointments, balms or butters, such as Tiger Balm, IcyHot or Cocoa Butter. If it is to be used, Thai liniment must be applied in the kickboxer’s dressing room or elsewhere backstage before the bout, and may not be reapplied after the kickboxer leaves the dressing room. The Thai liniment should be completely dried before the kickboxer enters the ring for competition. It is at the referee's discretion if a kickboxer has used an excessive amount of liniment. The referee may make the kickboxer wipe off the liniment if there is an excessive amount.
